I'm Rob Hodgkinson and here's why I'm running for State Senate
There is a
growing "disconnect" in American society.
The great belief in our country and in ourselves remains unchanged.
At the same time, our faith in government -- and in those who traditionally administer it -- grows less with the passage of time.
Few jobs at any level in Corporate America truly are secure. Illness itself often isn't the most frightening part of being sick; getting and paying for affordable healthcare is. The family vacation is under attack from high gasoline prices.. Since 9/11 our sense of security and well-being never has been the same. And the price to restore it -- two wars in which thousands of Americans have died -- seems too high.
And, at the end of the day, in Senators McCain and Obama, the major parties in reality offer only "more of the same," not the "change" they claim to represent. It's true at the statewide level, too, in Kansas.. Our "public servants" in Topeka serve only a bureaucracy with a self-sustaining momentum moving perpetually toward "more of the same" for vested and special interests with much to lose under the current system.
But I believe things can be different. In Topeka and in south Johnson County.
As senator, I will work with all citizens to focus our resources on the priorities and the values we all share: individuals, families, businesses, schools and service providers enjoying a safe and sustainable community
>>> stronger schools through more local control.
>>> protecting against eminent domain abuse.
>>> a more sensible revenue policy and few taxes.
The 2008 elections can be a "moment in time" for all of us. A time for us to again believe more in ourselves and each other than in big government.
I promise
to be available to you all the time, not just when an election's around
the corner. But let's start now. Call or write me to communicate the issues
that are important to you. And I'll respond with how I believe we best can
address them.
"A wise and frugal government,
which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them
otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement,
and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - This
is the sum of good government."
Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)
